Welcome to December! We are already feeling the holiday spirit here at Manpower and we are excitedly planning our holiday events across the province. This is a great opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones and explore your community during the most wonderful time of the year. The Calgary Zoo is hosting Zoolights again this holiday season daily until January 2, 2016 from 6-9 p.m. There will musical performances, a new interactive display, fire pits, the Candy Land Kids Zone, and a visit from Santa (until December 23). Visit the Calgary Zoo website for more information.
Visit Kensington for some holiday shopping. There is the chance you will get to see Santa himself every weekend until December 21. There are lots of fun activities including horse and wagon rides, a petting zoo, and “selfies with Santa”. For more information please see the Kensington website.
Want to experience Christmas from years ago? Visit Heritage Park where you can enjoy a wagon ride or sing Christmas carols with other families. Other activities include gingerbread cookie decorating, a petting zoo, and a vintage photo parlour. Watch the classic Charles Dickens’ novel come to life. The play tells the story of how Ebenezer Scrooge learns to embrace the spirit of Christmas. Stephen Hair returns to play Scrooge for his 22nd year! This is a great family show to learn about the true meaning of Christmas. The Edmonton team getting into the holiday spirit!
The Edmonton Valley Zoo is hosting the Festival of Light, which will feature artistic lights, live music, dancers, skating, and animal encounters. Bring the whole family to enjoy the lights, hot chocolate, skating, the new igloo, and much more! The Festival of Light runs from December 4 to 13 and tickets are available online.
The CC Christmas Market showcases Canadian artists and designers and will help you get creative. Find DIY inspiration, gifts, and décor for the holiday season from talented local artists. The market is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until December 20 and is located at 10914 105 Ave. Please visit the Cory Christopher website to learn more about special events and workshops.
Get some hot chocolate and walk down Candy Cane Lane — a ten-block stretch of displays of colourful Christmas lights and decorations. You can also enjoy the sighs by reserving your very own sleigh ride. 148 St. between 100 Ave. and 92 Ave. from December 11 through January 3. Visit the Alberta Legislature Building from December 3 to 23 to enjoy holiday musical performances. Performances are daily at noon, 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Please visit the legislature website for the choir schedule.
The Lacombe Christmas Farmers’ Market features a variety of local baking, crafts, food, woodwork, gifts, and more! Support local vendors who proudly share their products. The market is at the Lacombe Memorial Centre for the next two Friday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visit by December 11 so you don’t miss it! Watch ice sculptures being created as Parkland Garden Centre’s “Christmas Card to the Community”. Sculptures are scheduled to be created from December 10 to December 15, dependent on the weather. This year’s theme has not yet been announced but it is sure to be a treat for families. Parkland is located 3 minutes East of 30th Avenue, Red Deer on Highway 11 East. Dentoom’s Greehouses / Blue Grass Sod Farms is hosting their 3rd annual Christmas Market every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until December 20. There will be many local and popular vendors to help you finish your holiday shopping on time. Each Sunday has a different theme, so it’s worth a visit each weekend!
