An unexpected report was released today, suggesting that an incredible 19,000 Alberta jobs were added in the month of March.  With the gain in employment, our unemployment rate fell from 7.9 in February to 7.1 in March – now matching the national average for the month.  A majority of the jobs added were full-time positions which further supports this being a great news story.

Before celebrating though, many of us are reviewing the data and correlating that with the information that we have.  As this jobs report does not collaborate directly with what we are seeing and experiencing in the market.  There is a degree of estimation that goes into the reporting and it may well be that this report is not accurate in its reflection of the Alberta labour market situation.

We will continue to look at this report, along with additional months to determine the overall validity of the data.

But in the interim, this is a good bring news clip on an also sunny day!!!

Assuming the information is correct, then this may be an early sign of positive news ahead.
