Mechanical Design Engineer

Manpower is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract with a major pipeline client in Calgary, AB.


Job Overview:

  • Assist in mechanical design and development of solid oxide fuel cell and electrolysis stacks, as well as manufacturing and test equipment including jigs and fixtures
  • Realize designs including carrying out procurement, assembly, testing and commissioning activities as required
  • Produce innovative solutions based on creativity and prior experience
  • Responsible for preparing engineering drawings
  • Manage assigned tasks and projects including timelines, resources, and budget
  • Interact and coordinate with other technology development groups
  • Job responsibilities will be tailored to the applicant’s skills and qualifications
  • Help propel one of the highest efficiency electrolysis technologies to market
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Report to Senior Manager, Engineering

Required Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing areas preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in mechanical design or engineering roles
  • Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents
  • Excellent mechanical design experience with metal components and knowledge of various manufacturing techniques and demonstrated ability in design for manufacturing and assembly
  • Have hands-on experience with mechanical design, assembly and use of equipment
  • 3D CAD software experience, SolidWorks environment preferred
  • Be flexible and results-oriented with strong organizational and written and verbal communication skills
  • Personal interest in fuel cells / hydrogen / green technology
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); MS Access a plus
  • Be able to interact with internal and external customers, work in a multidisciplinary team. Interact with pilot manufacturing and technology teams, capable of communicating with all levels of the organization, and report results and updates to managers
  • Be able to independently conceive, design and execute experiments
  • Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required
  • Knowledge of fuel cells and high temperature materials preferred
  • Previous knowledge and experience related to automation or robotics preferred
  • Travel: Some local/domestic travel may be required in addition to occasional travel to US.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Passport
