Short Courses

Class 3 Driver Training

Instruction is made up of theory and practical skills training in truck including observation time, real time driving, backing techniques, walk-around practices, and coupling/uncoupling exercises.

A course for students who wish to receive the Alberta “Q” Air Brake Certification, which is mandatory for professional drivers of air brake vehicles. To successfully complete the course, students must attend in-class theory lessons and successfully complete written and practical examinations.

Course is 12 hours total spread over 2 days.

For students who seek to obtain an Alberta Class 3 driver’s license. During this course, students will learn safe driving procedures, pre-trip inspections, backing techniques, and practice their skills through classroom review, reaching exercises, observation, and hands-on practice. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to participate in a road exam with Alberta Registry. Students are expected to purchase the Driver’s Exam permit from Alberta Registry.

Class 3 Driver Training is conducted over a two-week period (Monday-Friday).

Class 2 Driver Training

A Class 2 license would allow you to drive a Class 3 or Class 4 vehicle as well. By obtaining a Class 2 license you are opening many more doors towards potential employment than a class 3 alone. Wood Buffalo region has more buses on the road per capita than anywhere in Canada. Class 2 and 3 jobs are in high demand and there are multiple companies hiring at any given time. Many new energy projects have been announced, including Pathways Alliance Carbon Capture project,  and we foresee a growing need for Class 2 and Class 3 drivers in the region.

Haul Truck Training

This is a four-week Haul Truck Operator course, which provides you with the skills and training needed to safely operate a haul truck, based on manufacturers’ recommendations and industry standards.

The course is made up of theory-based training, computer module training, and practical simulations and exercises. By completing the course, students will be ready for an entry level position as a haul truck operator in the industry.

National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Course

The intention of the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)™ program is to combine entry-level safety training with an individual’s personal field experience. An NCSO is a valuable resource for a company’s management through the implementation and administration of its health and safety program.

Certification indicates that the participant has practical knowledge in various construction-related health and safety management skills and principles.

This program is recommended for health and safety practitioners who wish to complete primary professional training and receive recognition as an NCSO across Canada.

Computer Skills Workshops

In this 25 hour introductory workshop, you will learn to operate the computer and its applications using Windows 10. You will learn commonly used features and functions, and master document and file management.
